Pieris japonica Carnaval

Pieris japonica 'Carnaval'Pieris japonica 'Carnaval' is connected on a very special way to our nursery. Obviously, this is because the Pieris Carnaval came to existence at our own nursery. Back in 1996, a strange looking leave drew our attention while working with Pieris japonica 'Mountain Fire'. Normally, the leaves are all dark green, but this one had a little branch with a couple of leaves which had a silver-white colored edge.

The little branch with these leaves was cut off carefully and luckily it developed roots and thus stayed alive. After a few years and a lot of 'special care', the little branch became a full grown plant and sprigs were used to multiply this special mutant.

Pieris japonica 'Carnaval'In 1999 we introduced the Pieris japonica 'Carnaval' to the market and it was judged by the 'Koninklijke Vereniging van Boskoopse Culturen' (The Royal Boskoop Horticultural Society), which is well known throughout the world for its objectivity and expertise. The Society's most important activity is judging plants of a certain genus. As said before, the society also judged the Pieris japonica Carnaval. The panel awarded it with a gold medal, which is ofcourse is an outstanding result. After that, the Pieris Carnaval developed into a very popular plant and is spread all over the world nowadays.
